Read on to learn how to use a ceramic hair straightener on your hair at home:

Steps to Using a Ceramic Hair Straightener

Step 1: Begin with Clean, Dry Hair

Never use a flat iron of any kind on wet hair. If you’re straightening hair that has been freshly washed, opt for using a leave-in conditioner that also acts as a heat defense like Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner before blow-drying to dry and using a flat iron to straighten.

Step 2: Apply Heat Protection of Choice

On dry hair, apply a heat protectant that will help protect your strands from the damaging effects of heat. While a ceramic hair straightener does help prevent most of the damage, it’s best to be safe than sorry. Plus, a little extra protection never hurt anyone! On the contrary: TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray protects your hair as it conditions, which you’ll need since heat styling tools can suck moisture out of strands. This heat tamer forms a protective barrier on the hair’s surface. Opt for spraying throughout your hair in one go, or do so bit by bit as you go through more hair sections.

Step 3: Section Your Hair

Starting from the back, create a one-inch section and clip away the rest of your hair. Take a smaller subsection of hair and evenly apply some heat protectant (if you haven’t done so in the aforementioned step). Then, glide the flat iron down your hair from the root to the tip, in one pass only. Glide at a pace that’s not too fast and not too slow to prevent having to pass the straightener over the same section of hair again.

Step 4: Comb Through and Add Shine

Once you’ve completed all sections, comb through with a long tail comb to style your hair. Add a serum or taming spray, like Bed Head by TIGI Get Twisted Anti-Frizz Finishing Spray, whose formula gives you added shine and helps tame frizz.
