Using a Hair Straightener to Create Curls
1. Brush your hair.
To start on the path to curly hair, you’ll need smooth and tangle-free hair. Spray your clean and dried hair with a heat protectant like the TRESemmé Get Sleek Heat Protection Spray. This will help to protect your strands from any damaging effects from the flat iron.
2. Section your hair.
Use a brush or a comb and part your hair down the middle. Work on one side at time as you create six smaller sections (about one-inch each). This will allow you to work in a system as you create curls that are approximately the same size.
3. Slide the iron.
Pick up one of the sections of your hair and slide the hair straightener close to the root. Turn the hair towards the back of the iron as you twist your hair around the closed tongs and going towards the bottom of your hair. Repeat this process throughout your strands to achieve the desired curls. However, with flat irons, the majority of the curls are created towards the end where you will create loose waves (as opposed to full-on ringlets).
4. Create some volume.
If you want more volume at the root, you will need to tease a small section of your hair as you lift some strands. This natural root lifter will provide some volume to your hair and enhances the fullness of your curls. You can also use some mousse like TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse to help you to create curls and bounce that will last all day long.
5. Set it.
Lock in your stunning waves by spraying your hair with some hairspray like the Dove Style+Care Extra Hold Hairspray. This formula will leave your hair soft without leaving it feeling stiff or sticky. Easy and super quick, we hope this tutorial can help you to create the curls of your dreams.
